An 8-year-old gelding named Give Me the Lute, who had participated in 40 career races, met a tragic end after suffering a racing injury at Los Alamitos. This incident has left the horse racing community in shock. California Horse Racing Board spokesman Mike Marten informed City News Service on Sunday that the gelding was injured while competing in the third race on Saturday and had to be euthanized.

According to the official race chart, Give Me the Lute was tracking from the inside and went wrong past the nine-sixteenths pole. It then pulled up and came to a stop near the seven-sixteenths pole and was transported off the track via an equine ambulance.
