2025-01-16

The Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) has released its second set of high school basketball rankings for the season, reflecting the competitive spirit and talent across various classes. Teams have been evaluated based on their performances reported to local sports writers, who then nominated them for consideration. The rankings highlight the top teams in each classification, from 7A down to 1A, as well as private academies.

In Class 7A, Hoover leads with an impressive record, followed closely by Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and Vestavia Hills. Other notable mentions include Bob Jones and Auburn. As we move down to Class 6A, Park Crossing takes the top spot, with Hazel Green and Hartselle following suit. In Class 5A, Scottsboro emerges as the leader, while Trinity dominates in Class 4A. For Class 3A, Lauderdale County stands out, and Decatur Heritage claims the top position in Class 2A. Spring Garden leads the way in Class 1A, showcasing exceptional performance throughout the season.

Beyond the main classifications, the private academies also have their own rankings. Valiant Cross Academy leads this category, demonstrating strong competition among smaller institutions. The ASWA's role extends beyond just rankings; it is a professional organization dedicated to promoting and recognizing excellence in high school sports. Through its prep committee, the association conducts regular evaluations and selects all-state teams, ensuring that deserving athletes receive recognition. This commitment to fostering talent and sportsmanship sets a positive example for young athletes, encouraging them to strive for excellence both on and off the court.
