A Deep Connection to the Alma Mater

David Hussey’s return to Lowndes Academy is more than just a career move; it represents a homecoming for an individual deeply rooted in the school’s rich history. Having graduated from Lowndes in 2016, Hussey brings not only his athletic prowess but also a profound understanding of the institution's values and culture. His journey through the ranks of baseball—from community college to Division One—has equipped him with invaluable insights that he now aims to impart to the next generation of Rebels.Hussey’s decision to return was influenced by a strong sense of belonging and a desire to give back to the community that nurtured him. “I’ve always had a drive, and coaching has always been in the back of my mind,” Hussey shared. “When Coach Matt Marshall reached out, I felt like this was where I was meant to be. It’s an honor to contribute to the legacy that shaped me.”

An Impressive Athletic Background

Hussey’s baseball career is marked by notable achievements and relentless dedication. After graduating from Lowndes Academy, he played at Georgia Highlands Community College before transferring to the University of Tennessee at Martin. Over four years, including an additional year due to the pandemic, Hussey honed his skills and leadership abilities on the field. His experiences at different levels of competition have prepared him well for his new role. “In the sports world, baseball is what I wanted to do,” Hussey remarked. “It was always clear to me that baseball was my calling. The lessons I learned during my playing days have instilled in me a commitment to excellence, which I aim to pass on to the players.”

Building on a Winning Tradition

Maintaining and enhancing the winning culture at Lowndes Academy is a top priority for Hussey. He acknowledges the significance of continuing the legacy established by previous coaches, particularly Shane Moye, under whom he played. “Coach Shane taught me the importance of discipline and hard work,” Hussey explained. “I intend to build on that foundation and strive for a ‘three-peat’ this season.”However, Hussey’s vision extends beyond victories on the field. He places immense value on character development and believes that success in life stems from doing things the right way. “The biggest impact I want to have is on these young men’s lives,” he emphasized. “Coaches who genuinely care about their players can make a lasting difference. By fostering integrity and resilience, we can ensure that winning becomes a natural outcome of our efforts.”

A Bright Future for Lowndes Baseball

With Hussey at the helm, the future looks promising for Lowndes Academy’s baseball program. His blend of experience, passion, and commitment to both athletic and personal growth sets the stage for continued success. As he integrates into his new role, Hussey is eager to inspire and lead the Rebels to greater heights.“I’m so happy and blessed to be here,” Hussey concluded. “This is where I feel called to be, and I’m ready to embark on this exciting journey with the students and athletes of Lowndes Academy.”
