Argentine-Bred Champion Didia Retires After Stellar Career
2025-01-31

The Argentine-bred mare Didia, renowned for her impressive victories in multiple graded stakes races across the United States, has officially retired at the age of seven. Her owner, Resolute Racing, announced that Didia has been relocated to a farm in Midway, Kentucky, where she will be bred to Nyquist. This decision marks the end of an illustrious career that spanned continents and earned her numerous accolades.

Didia's journey began in Argentina, where she secured four consecutive Group 1 or 2 stakes victories before making the move to the U.S. under the guidance of trainer Ignacio Correas IV. In her new home, Didia continued to shine, winning five out of her first six starts. Among her notable achievements were triumphs in the Grade 2 Rodeo Drive and Modesty stakes, along with a commendable second-place finish in the prestigious New York stakes. Despite a less favorable performance in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, Didia remained a formidable competitor.

In early 2024, Didia kicked off the year with a victory in the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational, followed by another win in the New York stakes later in the summer. Her final race saw her narrowly miss the top spot, finishing third by just a half-length and a nose in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. Throughout her career, Didia accumulated an impressive record of 20 starts, with 11 wins, two seconds, and two thirds, earning over $1.75 million in prize money.

Didia's retirement brings to a close a remarkable chapter in thoroughbred racing history. Her consistent performances and significant victories have solidified her place among the elite mares of her generation. As she begins this new phase of life, fans and enthusiasts alike look forward to seeing what the future holds for this extraordinary athlete.
