Augusta University Men’s Tennis Falls to Columbus State in Intense PBC Clash

In a highly anticipated Peach Belt Conference match, Augusta University's men’s tennis team faced off against Columbus State, resulting in a 6-1 defeat. This encounter took place on Saturday afternoon at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus, Georgia. The Jaguars now stand with a record of 9-6 overall and 1-2 within conference play. The next challenge for Augusta is Emmanuel University on March 25th.

The doubles segment proved challenging for Augusta as they lost crucial matches at No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Enzo Garutti partnered with Alexis Bailhache, suffering a decisive 1-6 loss at the top spot. Meanwhile, Enzo Sakiyama and Humberto Pinto also faced defeat with a 2-6 scoreline at No. 3. Notably, the No. 2 doubles pairing of David Perret and Arthur Valette maintained parity until their match was left unfinished at 4-4.

Moving into singles competition, Augusta managed one victory through Perret at the No. 4 position, where he triumphed with scores of 6-4, 6-4. Despite valiant efforts, other players struggled. At No. 1, Garutti narrowly lost to Camilo Cano with sets of 3-6, 6-7. Bailhache also fell short at No. 2, losing 3-6, 2-6. Similarly, Valette encountered difficulties at No. 3, being edged out 6-4, 5-7. Both Pinto and Sakiyama faced tough opponents, ending with losses of 0-6, 3-6 and 2-6, 6-7 respectively.

Augusta University will look to regroup ahead of their upcoming match against Emmanuel University. While the current results reflect challenges within the Peach Belt Conference, the team remains focused on improving performance and securing more points in future competitions.
