Beavers Boosted: Oregon State Lands Promising Forward in Transfer Market
2025-04-23

A new chapter unfolds for Oregon State men’s basketball as they secure their first transfer addition following a series of departures. Stephen Olowoniyi, a former forward from Southern Indiana, has committed to the Beavers, bringing fresh talent to the team. Known for his versatility and height, this Australian-born sophomore made significant contributions to the Screaming Eagles last season. In his role as a starter in nearly all games, Olowoniyi showcased impressive skills on both ends of the court.

Standing at an imposing 6-foot-8 and weighing 200 pounds, Olowoniyi demonstrated remarkable consistency with averages of 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game during his time at Southern Indiana. His standout performance came against Tennessee Tech when he scored a career-high 26 points. Before transferring, Olowoniyi spent a year at Virginia Military Institute, where he contributed significantly as a freshman. His journey through U.S. prep basketball, highlighted by all-state honors at The Webb School in Tennessee, underscores his potential.

As the college sports landscape evolves, Oregon State faces challenges in retaining top talent due to financial constraints in the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) market. Despite losing several key players, including their leading scorer, the recruitment of Olowoniyi signifies a positive step forward. This move not only strengthens the Beavers' roster but also highlights the importance of perseverance and strategic planning in building a competitive program amidst economic pressures. Through such efforts, Oregon State continues to strive for excellence and growth in collegiate athletics.
