The Bellarmine University men’s tennis team is gearing up for an exciting start to their spring season, as they embark on a journey westward to Lincoln, Nebraska. This weekend, the Knights will participate in two matches at the University of Nebraska. On Saturday, January 18th, the team will face off against the Cornhuskers at 5 pm Eastern Time. The following day, Sunday, the Knights will challenge the University of Nebraska at Omaha at 10 am Eastern Time. These matches mark significant early-season encounters for both teams.
For the Cornhuskers, Bellarmine will be their second dual match of the spring season, following a contest against Drake earlier that morning. Meanwhile, for the Mavericks of Nebraska at Omaha, this will be their third competition of the season after facing Oklahoma and Tulsa. Prior to these matches, Bellarmine’s players had an active fall season, participating in five team events. Senior Jack Batchelor and junior Matthew Nice also represented the Atlantic Sun Conference at the ITA Conference Masters Championships, adding another prestigious event to their calendar.
The Knights have demonstrated impressive performance in recent competitions. Overall, they achieved 33 wins in singles and 19 victories in doubles play during the fall. Jack Batchelor stood out by leading the team with a total of 19 wins, including 10 in singles and nine in doubles. His outstanding performance set a new program record, making him the first player to reach 100 career wins. Matthew Nice, Batchelor’s doubles partner, contributed significantly with nine wins in doubles and six individual victories. Junior Vineet Ramesh also excelled, securing five wins in singles and six in doubles. As the Knights prepare for their upcoming matches, fans can look forward to witnessing more remarkable performances from this talented team.
