The Steelers' Unsung Hero - Ben Skowronek
From the Rams to the Steelers
A former seventh-round pick, Skowronek spent his initial three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. However, in May, he was traded to the Texans, only to be released in August. It was then that the Steelers signed him to their practice squad. Skowronek had other options available, but he chose to sign with the Steelers. He alluded to this decision, and the team promptly elevated him to play in the opener."Having spent three great years with the Rams and having worked with some excellent coaches, there were many memorable moments. But I feel a special connection here in Pittsburgh," Skowronek said through Mike Prisuta on the Steelers' website. The Special Teams Dirtbag
Now, Ben Skowronek is living his best life as the Steelers' special teams dirtbag. This season, he has already recovered his second fumble off a muffed punt. His impact isn't limited to special teams; he is also seeing playing time on offense. While his primary role is blocking, he takes it seriously and knows his job well."Although the style of football is different here, there are many veterans in this locker room who are winners. There are similarities, but the AFC North brand of football is unique. We work hard every day towards our goal," Skowronek explained.Overcoming Injuries
Earlier in the season, Skowronek missed several games due to injury. But once he was healthy, the Steelers didn't hesitate to get him back on the field. Since his return, he has firmly established himself in the team's pecking order. He is not only a key player on special teams but is also becoming increasingly valuable on offense."Whenever I'm on the field, I have a great time. Competing with these guys in the locker room is a lot of fun. We have a tight-knit group, and that makes it even better," Skowronek added. The Steelers have always emphasized special teams, and this year they have taken it to a new level. Even after losing some core players, they have seen more team spirit than ever before. Ben Skowronek is a big part of that success. He is willing to do the dirty jobs and is an integral part of the team. Just like Mike Rowe, there isn't much he won't do for the Steelers.
