Bobcat Baseball Prepares for a Rebound Season in San Marcos
2024-12-21

The Texas State baseball team, known as the Bobcats, is gearing up for an intense 2025 season following a modest performance in 2024. With a revised schedule released on October 22, the team aims to reclaim its former glory, having last won the Sun Belt Regular Season Conference title and made an NCAA Tournament appearance two years ago. The upcoming season will feature 56 games, including a mix of home and away matches against formidable opponents.

A Fresh Start with High-Stakes Competitions

The Bobcats kick off their season with a three-game series against Binghamton from February 14-16. Following this, they face a string of challenging opponents, including Illinois, which was the Big 10 Regular Season Champion in 2024. After a brief encounter with Texas A&M Aggies, the Bobcats return home to face Grand Canyon University (GCU), another NCAA Tournament participant. These early matches set the tone for what promises to be a competitive season.

The opening weeks of the season are crucial for the Bobcats as they face several teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament last year. The team begins with Binghamton, followed by Illinois, who had a strong regular season but exited early in the Lexington Regionals. A one-game showdown with Texas A&M, the runner-up in the College World Series, adds excitement. Then, GCU, the Western Athletic Conference champions, visits San Marcos. Each game offers valuable experience and preparation for the challenges ahead.

Home Field Advantage and Key Matchups

The Bobcats will benefit significantly from playing 31 of their 56 games at Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos. Among these home games are matchups against TCU Horned Frogs and Coastal Carolina, both of which have recent tournament experience. The team also welcomes Southern Miss, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Champion, and Texas Longhorns, whom they defeated twice last season. This home-field advantage could be pivotal in boosting morale and securing victories.

In March, the Bobcats host a series of high-profile games, starting with TCU, who had a solid season despite missing the NCAA Tournament. Coastal Carolina, a top 33 team according to D1Baseball, brings additional competition to San Marcos. In April, the Bobcats welcome Southern Miss and Houston Christian, continuing their dominance over the Huskies. Later in the month, they face Texas Longhorns for a second time, aiming for their first home win since 2019. The season concludes with a three-game series against James Madison, another Sun Belt team that made waves in the NCAA Tournament last year. These home games provide ample opportunities for the Bobcats to showcase their skills and build momentum towards a successful season.
