The Georgia men's tennis team kicked off the ITA Sectionals in Rome, Georgia with a strong showing, as Oscar Pinto Sansano moved on to the round of 16 for singles competition. However, the Bulldogs faced some tough challenges, with four players losing their first matches and now fighting for a spot in the consolation bracket.

Pinto Sansano Dominates in Singles

Oscar Pinto Sansano, a standout player for the Georgia Bulldogs, showcased his skills on the court, soundly defeating Alabama's Damien Nezar 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 32. This impressive victory has earned Pinto Sansano a spot in the singles round of 16, where he will face off against Georgia Tech's Gabriele Brancatelli.

Ratiu also faced a close match, losing to Vanderbilt's Hugo Coquelin 7-6(2), 1-6, 6-3. Despite these setbacks, Colby and Ratiu will have the opportunity to redeem themselves in the consolation bracket, where they will face off against Auburn's Alexander Frusina and Georgia Tech's Christophe Clement, respectively.

Doubles Pairings Struggle in Main Draw

In addition to the singles competition, the Georgia Bulldogs also faced challenges in the doubles main draw. Both of the Bulldogs' doubles pairings, Freddy Blaydes/Ratiu and Miguel Perez Peña/Pinto Sansano, fell in the round of 32.

Blaydes and Ratiu were defeated by Indiana's Yunis/van Assendelft 6-3, 7-6(3), while Perez Peña and Pinto Sansano lost a close match against Florida State 3-6, 6-4, [10-6].

Despite these setbacks, the Bulldogs' doubles teams will have the opportunity to bounce back in the doubles consolation quarterfinals. Blaydes and Ratiu will face off against Florida State's Connel/Craig, while Perez Peña and Pinto Sansano will take on Central Florida's Benchakroun/Giamichelle.
