The Bryant University women's tennis team made a strong showing at the ITA Masters Conference Championship in Rome, Georgia, with Natalia Vela and Caitlyn Munson representing both the Bulldogs and the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in the open doubles main draw.

Bulldogs Duo Defies Expectations, Secures Upset Victory

Overcoming the Odds

Vela and Munson, selected by the OVC to participate in the prestigious tournament, faced a formidable challenge in the round of 32. They were pitted against Ana Paula Naranjo Martinez Kobash and Mariana Manyoma Velasquez from the University of Tulsa, who were seeded 5-8 going into the match. Undeterred by the odds, the Bryant duo showcased their tenacity and skill, emerging victorious in a thrilling three-set battle, winning 1-6, 7(7)-6(5), [10]-[8].

Pushing the Limits

The Bulldogs' success in the opening round propelled them to the round of 16, where they faced off against Irene Riva and Madelyn Ferreros of Sacramento State University. In a closely contested match, Riva and Ferreros ultimately prevailed, defeating the Bryant pair 5-7, 6-4, [10]-[4]. Despite the loss, Vela and Munson's performance at the ITA Masters Conference Championship showcased their resilience and ability to compete at the highest level.
