Bulldogs Poised for Breakout Season as Foley Field Undergoes Upgrades
2024-11-08
The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team is gearing up for an exciting 2025 season, with a packed schedule that includes 33 home games, 22 road games, and one neutral site matchup. After advancing past the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008, the Bulldogs are determined to build on their recent success and make a deep postseason run.
Elevating the Game: Georgia's Upgraded Foley Field
Debuting a Revamped Home Turf
The Bulldogs will debut their upgraded Foley Field when they host the University of Illinois Chicago in a four-game series on February 20. The renovations to their home stadium are expected to provide a significant boost to the team's performance and fan experience. With improved facilities and amenities, the Bulldogs are poised to capitalize on the home-field advantage and create an even more formidable environment for visiting teams.Challenging Early-Season Opponents
Georgia's 2025 campaign will kick off on Valentine's Day (February 14) with a four-game series against UNC Wilmington. The Bulldogs faced the Seahawks in the NCAA Athens Regional last year, where they emerged victorious with an 11-2 win. After the UNC Wilmington series, the team will travel to Kennesaw State on February 18 before returning home to host the University of Illinois Chicago.Navigating the Non-Conference Slate
Following their home-opening series, the Bulldogs will face off against Georgia State on February 29, a matchup they won 15-0 last season. They will then host a four-game series against Florida Gulf Coast, kicking off a 13-game homestand that includes midweek games against High Point and Georgia State, as well as a weekend series against Columbia.Preparing for SEC Play
The Bulldogs will have one final tune-up against ETSU on March 11 before diving into their SEC schedule, which begins on March 14 with a three-game series against Kentucky. The Wildcats will be making the trip to Athens, as Georgia traveled to Lexington to start their conference slate last season. The Bulldogs have added some key pieces to their roster, including former Kentucky assistant coach Nick Ammirati and outfielder Nolan McCarthy from the transfer portal.Facing Familiar Foes and New Challenges
After the Kentucky series, Georgia will head to Florida for a three-game set, a matchup that typically includes a fall scrimmage, but was not possible this offseason due to renovations at Foley Field. Both the Bulldogs and Gators will be missing key players from their 2024 rosters, as Charlie Condon and Jac Caglianone, who combined for 72 home runs last season, were selected in the top-six of the 2024 MLB Draft.Marquee Matchups and Rivalries
The Bulldogs' schedule features several high-profile matchups, including a game against Georgia Tech at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. The in-state rivals have a bitter history, with last year's game in Atlanta being suspended due to rain and never made up. Georgia and Georgia Tech also played one of the most memorable games in program history last season, with the Bulldogs winning 8-6 in 10 innings to advance to the Super Regional and end the Yellow Jackets' postseason run.Facing the Nation's Best
Georgia will also take on the "Yankees of college baseball," Vanderbilt, in a three-game series, as well as a rematch against Clemson, who they faced in a 15-inning game last season. The Bulldogs will host reigning Big 12 regular season champion Oklahoma and welcome Texas A&M, the 2024 College World Series runner-up, to Foley Field to close out the regular season.Roster Additions and Emerging Talent
The Bulldogs have made some key additions to their roster, including former Kentucky assistant coach Nick Ammirati and outfielder Nolan McCarthy from the transfer portal. Ammirati is known for his player development skills, while McCarthy has already endeared himself to the team, serving as one of the captains for the Bulldogs' Fall World Series.
