Ryan's Transfer and His Impact
During his one season at Utah in 2024, Carsen Ryan showcased his skills with 10 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. However, he had to miss a large part of the off-season conditioning due to an injury. Before that, as a former American Fork High star in the class of 2022, he signed with UCLA and had an impressive 19 receptions for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Now, with one year of eligibility remaining, Ryan brings a versatile skill set to BYU. He has a great opportunity to step in and become the immediate starter in 2025, filling the void left by graduations and transfers from the tight end unit. This transfer is not just a numbers game; it's about adding a player with the right attributes to enhance the team's offense. Ryan's size, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 256 pounds, gives BYU a physical presence in the tight end position. His experience at both Utah and UCLA also adds to his value, as he has faced different opponents and game situations. The Departures and the Need for a Replacement
Due to graduation, BYU is losing key players like Keanu Hill, Mata’ava Ta’ase, and Ray Paulo from the tight end unit this year. Additionally, former four-star recruit Jackson Bowers, who had entered the transfer portal, recently had an official visit to Oregon State. This creates a need for a reliable and talented tight end to step up and fill these roles. The tight end position is crucial in a football team's offense, as they provide a target for the quarterback and can be a key part of the running game. With Ryan's arrival, BYU has a chance to strengthen this position and improve their overall offensive performance in 2025.Preparing for the 2025 Campaign
