NBA Academy Africa Connection

Mboup is a product of the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal. There, he trained alongside 20 other professional prospects and was mentored by current BYU assistant Will Voigt. His journey to join the Cougars was a result of his hard work and determination. Turning 18 in September, he reclassified from the 2025 class to 2024 to accelerate his path to college basketball. This experience at the NBA Academy Africa has equipped him with valuable skills and a competitive edge. It has laid the foundation for his future in college basketball and has given him the confidence to take on the challenges ahead.

Path to BYU

This past July, it was reported that Mboup had committed to BYU by Joe Tipton of On3 Sports. To fulfill some academic requirements, he enrolled at Utah Prep, the same school where AJ Dybantsa currently plays. Now, he is set to head to the campus in Provo for the winter semester, ready to make an impact on the team. His decision to join BYU shows his belief in the program and his ambition to succeed at the college level. It is an exciting time for both Mboup and the Cougars as they look forward to his contributions on the court.

Impressive Skills and Potential

In the BAL, Khadim Mboup didn't get extensive playing time with AS Douanes. However, he made up for it with his inspired play in the BAL Elevate Showcase. He was unstoppable in transition and at the dunker spot, showcasing his athleticism and scoring ability.According to BYU's statement, Mboup averaged 7.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for NBA Academy Africa in the 2023 Road to BAL qualification tournament. Coach Kevin Young praised him, stating that he is an elite level athlete who can be disruptive on the defensive end and guard multiple positions. His ability to attack the rim and his smooth shooting mechanics give him tremendous upside offensively.McCombs assesses Mboup as "uber-athletic" and believes he can play both at the small and power forward positions. While he may redshirt for the 2024-25 campaign, there is great potential for him to become a productive piece for the Cougars in the future.
