On a sunny Sunday in early January, the UH Tennis Complex in Honolulu became the stage for an outstanding exhibition of tennis prowess by the California women’s team. The Golden Bears demonstrated exceptional form, particularly in singles matches, where they dominated their Hawaiian counterparts. Sophomore Tiziana-Marie Schomburg and newcomer Greta Greco Lucchina each secured three consecutive wins during the tournament. Schomburg overcame Hawaii’s Hannah Galindo with scores of 6-2, 6-3, while Lucchina triumphed over Emma Forgac with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory. Senior Jessica Alsola also contributed significantly, defeating Peppi Ramstedt 6-4, 6-2. Additionally, several nationally ranked players from Cal, including Katja Wiersholm, Lan Mi, Mao Mushika, and Berta Passola Folch, all emerged victorious against their respective opponents.
The tournament was not limited to singles play; doubles matches were equally competitive. Lucchina and Mushika teamed up to claim a decisive 6-3 win over Masuda and Ramstedt from Hawaii.
