The Charlotte Women's Tennis team, currently ranked 61st, is set to take on the 40th-ranked Yale Bulldogs at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex this Thursday morning. Should adverse weather conditions arise, the match will relocate to LifeTime Fitness at an adjusted time of 1 PM. Demonstrating strong performance, the 49ers recently improved their record to 13-3 after a challenging series involving four ranked opponents in five matches. Meanwhile, Yale comes into the competition with a record of 9-5, having most recently faced Duke. This marks the inaugural meeting between these two teams.
Yale has been navigating through tough opposition as well, encountering three consecutive ranked opponents. Their recent encounter against Duke resulted in a clean sweep loss. In contrast, Charlotte showcased resilience over the weekend by rebounding from a setback against Florida Atlantic with a decisive victory over South Florida. The FAU match saw promising efforts from freshmen players Ni Xi and Prisca Abbas, though ultimately falling short. However, Charlotte swiftly regrouped, achieving a comprehensive win against South Florida thanks to stellar performances from Xi, Lucia Aranda, and Shona Nakano.
Among standout performers for Charlotte is Sara Suchankova, who boasts an impressive spring singles record of 9-3. Her victories have primarily come from the top position, demonstrating remarkable consistency when securing the first set. Notably, only one of her matches extended into a third set, showcasing her dominance in closing out games.
Moving forward, Charlotte anticipates further Ivy League action when they host Brown later in March. Following this, they are scheduled to travel to Greenville for a clash against Furman, concluding their away game commitments for the season.
Awaiting them is another significant test against Brown, where they aim to maintain their current momentum. As they prepare for this next phase, the team remains focused on refining their skills and continuing their upward trajectory in competitive play.
