With only two days left in the Churchill Downs fall meet, the focus now shifts to winter preparations. As the track halts live racing until spring, various trainers and jockeys are making their moves. Some will stay in Kentucky to race at Turfway Park, while others are venturing to different circuits across the country.
Turfway Park's Winter Meet
Turfway Park's winter meet kicks off on Wednesday with a first post at 5:55 p.m. EST. Several leading training outfits have kept their horses in Kentucky, either at Turfway or the Trackside Louisville facility. This allows for continuous training during the winter months.Among the prominent trainers remaining in Kentucky are Steve Asmussen, Brad Cox, Cherie DeVaux, Greg Foley, Mike Maker, Michael McCarthy, Joe Sharp, and Brendan Walsh.
