Coastal Carolina Women's Tennis Team Faces Defeat Against Old Dominion

The Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team encountered a challenging match against the No. 46 Old Dominion Monarchs in Norfolk, Virginia. On Friday morning, the Monarchs emerged victorious with a decisive sweep. The doubles segment saw Old Dominion secure victories on court one and two. In singles play, the Monarchs continued their dominance, achieving wins on courts five, three, and two, thus securing a 4-0 win overall. Notably, freshman Sarah Clark managed to secure a set for Coastal Carolina on court six. Looking ahead, the Chanticleers are scheduled to face James Madison Dukes at the Stevens Tennis Complex on April 19th.

In the doubles matches, Sofia Johnson and Victoria Matasova from Old Dominion triumphed over Nicole Abel and Anna Babayan of Coastal Carolina with a score of 6-0. Similarly, Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova from ODU defeated Aida Mitrache and Brunelle Kouam from CCU with a score of 6-2. The third doubles match between Marina Markina and Kira Matushkina from ODU versus Brooke Rogers and Sarah Clark from CCU remained unfinished at 4-2.

Moving onto singles play, the Monarchs maintained their momentum. Sofia Johnson narrowly missed completing her game against Anna Babayan, leading 6-0, 4-2 when it was unfinished. Kira Matushkina decisively beat Aida Mitrache with scores of 6-3, 6-1. Lidiia Rasskouskaia also dominated Brunelle Kouam with scores of 6-0, 6-3. Meanwhile, Ulyana Romanova led Katya Hersh before their game was left incomplete at 6-2, 5-1. Victoria Matasova completed another victory over Nicole Abel with scores of 6-0, 6-2. Lastly, Sarah Clark held her own against Mya Byrd but their encounter was also unfinished at 6-2, 2-1.

As the season nears its conclusion, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will look to regroup before taking on James Madison University next. This upcoming match is set to take place early in the morning on April 19th at the Stevens Tennis Complex, where fans can cheer them on as they aim for a strong finish to the season.
