2025-01-10

The University of Wyoming’s women’s tennis team is gearing up for an intense week of competition at the Hurricane Invitational in Tulsa, Oklahoma. From January 11 to January 17, the Cowgirls will face off against six different opponents across various venues within the Sooner State. This invitational marks the beginning of their 2025 season and offers a crucial opportunity to showcase their skills.

Leading the Cowgirls into this challenging week is head coach Dean Clower, who is entering his 14th season with the team. Under his guidance, the Cowgirls have maintained a strong record, winning over 60% of their matches overall and more than 70% in conference play. This year, only two experienced players return: senior Serina Abriola and junior Violetta Borodina. These seasoned athletes will be key contributors as they aim to build on the team's impressive legacy. The upcoming matches will test not only their individual prowess but also the cohesion and strength of the entire squad.

The journey begins on January 11 with back-to-back matches against the University of Tulsa and Louisiana Tech, both held in Tulsa. The following day, the Cowgirls will take on Arkansas State, also in Tulsa. Midweek, on January 15, they travel to Stillwater to compete against Oklahoma State. The final stretch includes matches on January 17 in Norman, facing Wichita State and the University of Oklahoma. With such a rigorous schedule, the Cowgirls will need to demonstrate resilience and determination to carry forward their tradition of excellence. Fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating whether this young team can uphold the high standards set by their predecessors.
