Dewey Offers a Lifeline for TikTok Users Amidst Uncertain Future
2025-01-22

Amidst the uncertain future of TikTok in the United States, an innovative service named Dewey has stepped up to provide users with a reliable way to preserve their cherished content. This platform initially made its debut in May 2021 as a tool for organizing Twitter bookmarks. Since then, it has broadened its scope to encompass various social media platforms such as Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn, and Truth Social, alongside browser bookmarks. The company is also planning to integrate support for Reddit and Instagram.

The Dewey team accelerated its efforts to accommodate TikTok users ahead of a potential shutdown. Although the scheduled closure was postponed by 75 days via an executive decision, TikTok's long-term presence in the U.S. remains unpredictable. Co-founder Tom Harari revealed to TechCrunch that the team initiated work on this emergency backup solution last week and successfully launched it over the weekend. This marks Dewey’s first venture into supporting video-centric social networks. With the new feature, users can now seamlessly transfer all their TikTok favorites and collections into Dewey, ensuring these videos remain accessible indefinitely.

As Dewey continues to expand its offerings, it introduces enhancements like date-based filtering, data export capabilities, and Markdown export support, which allows users to integrate their bookmarks with other applications. The service operates on a freemium model, providing basic features for free while offering premium plans starting at $7.50 per month for unlimited account backups. These plans include advanced functionalities such as automatic syncing, enhanced search options, and additional export features. Dewey currently boasts over 40,000 active users and 1,500 paying subscribers.

In a rapidly changing digital landscape, services like Dewey play a crucial role in safeguarding user-generated content. By offering robust backup solutions, Dewey not only ensures that users can retain their favorite moments but also underscores the importance of preserving digital memories. In an era where platforms may come and go, tools like Dewey empower individuals to take control of their online experiences, fostering a sense of security and continuity in the ever-evolving world of social media.
