Both his brothers, Will and Colin, had left indelible marks on Bullitt East's soccer program. Will became the school's head coach, while Colin shattered scoring records before moving on to Bellarmine University and Louisville City Football Club. Despite this legacy, Devin found his true calling on the baseball field. From the age of three, baseball was more than just a game; it was a passion that shaped his future.Elder’s early years were spent honing his skills with the Mount Washington Mudcats until he reached 15. During high school, he balanced both soccer and baseball, demonstrating remarkable versatility. On the soccer field, he contributed significantly to Bullitt East’s success, finishing fourth in team points as a senior. However, it was on the baseball diamond where Elder truly shone, especially during his breakout junior season. He emerged as a formidable pitcher, facing some of the toughest competition in the state, including eventual champions Pleasure Ridge Park. His resilience and adaptability were evident when he overcame early setbacks, such as giving up two home runs to Fern Creek, only to shut down the opposition for the remainder of the game.The Decision to Pursue Baseball

While soccer remained a significant part of his life, baseball offered a unique opportunity for growth and development. The support of his family and friends played a crucial role in this decision. His brothers’ achievements motivated him to push beyond his limits, while his hitting coach, Hunter Wood, provided invaluable guidance over nine years of mentorship.The choice to commit fully to baseball also meant exploring collegiate options. Elder received interest from several institutions, including the University of Charleston. However, it was Schoolcraft College that ultimately captured his attention. Located in Livonia, Michigan, Schoolcraft boasted excellent athletic facilities and a winning culture under the leadership of its coaching staff. The prospect of playing second base and contributing to the Ocelots' roster solidified Elder’s decision to head north.A Legacy of Excellence
