2024-11-27
Disney+ is set to have a new leader in the EMEA region as Karl Holmes takes the reins. With a rich background at Sky, Holmes is now tasked with driving the growth of the Disney+ business across the continent.

Disney+ Transitions with a Proven Leader

Karl Holmes' Sky Background

Karl Holmes has spent the last decade at Sky, occupying various senior roles. He has led teams across functions such as marketing, operations, finance, commercial, and data. During this time, he served as Chief Operating Officer for Europe, Chief Consumer Revenue Officer for the UK, Chief Financial Officer for the UK and Ireland, and Group Chief Data Officer. His extensive experience at Sky has equipped him with the skills and knowledge needed to handle the challenges of leading Disney+ in EMEA.

His diverse roles at Sky have given him a comprehensive understanding of the industry and the ability to manage different aspects of a business. This background makes him a valuable asset for Disney+ as it looks to expand its presence in the EMEA market.

Taking Over from Luke Bradley-Jones

Luke Bradley-Jones, who left to become President of the Economist earlier this year, has handed over the reins to Karl Holmes. Holmes will now report to Jan Koeppen and Joe Earley and assume responsibility for the Disney+ business across EMEA. The regional team based out of London, which has commissioned successful projects like Rivals, Extraordinary, and The Good Mothers, will be led by Holmes.

This transition marks a new chapter for Disney+ in EMEA. Holmes' appointment comes at a time when the DTC business is going from strength to strength across the region. Koeppen believes that Holmes' proven track record in building long-term success in consumer-facing businesses will help the team flourish.

Holmes' Excitement and Admiration for Disney

Holmes expressed his excitement about joining Disney. He said, "For years I’ve admired Disney’s unique position as a business. As a long-time fan of the brand, I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the company to lead direct-to-consumer in EMEA, after a fantastic decade at Sky."

His admiration for Disney and his passion for the brand will likely drive his efforts to make Disney+ a success in the EMEA region. He brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the table, which will be crucial in navigating the competitive landscape.

Disney's Search for a Content Chief

Disney also revealed that Bradley-Jones was joining the Economist in a President and MD role in February. Holmes' appointment comes at a time when Disney is seeking a Disney+ content chief in the region following the departure of Liam Keelan. This indicates the company's commitment to strengthening its content offerings and driving growth in the EMEA market.

With Holmes in place, Disney+ is well-positioned to continue its expansion and success in EMEA. His leadership and expertise will play a vital role in shaping the future of the business in the region.
