Dubai World Cup Races Secure Automatic Qualifiers for Breeders' Cup
2025-02-16

On Sunday, a significant announcement was made regarding the prestigious Dubai World Cup and three other Group 1 races held at Meydan on April 5. These events will now serve as automatic qualifiers for the renowned Breeders’ Cup, enhancing the global reach of both competitions. The $12 million Dubai World Cup, alongside the Dubai Golden Shaheen, Dubai Sheema Classic, and Dubai Turf, will offer winning horses complimentary entry into corresponding Breeders’ Cup races. This development marks an important milestone in international horse racing, fostering greater collaboration between racing organizations and elevating the status of these events.

The new arrangement introduces an exciting opportunity for horses from around the world to compete in the United States. Specifically, the winners of the Dubai World Cup will earn a place in the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, while victors of the Dubai Golden Shaheen, Dubai Sheema Classic, and Dubai Turf will gain entry into the Sprint, Turf, and Mile respectively. This initiative, now in its 19th year, aims to enhance the prestige and competitiveness of both the Breeders’ Cup and the Dubai World Cup. Drew Fleming, president and CEO of Breeders’ Cup Limited, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, highlighting its role in promoting global unity within the sport.

The collaboration extends beyond the immediate benefits of qualification. Winners of the Dubai World Cup quartet will also receive automatic starting positions and free entries into subsequent Dubai races in 2026. For instance, the winner of the Dubai World Cup will secure a spot in the 2026 Dubai World Cup, while the Dubai Golden Shaheen champion will be entered into the following year’s race without additional fees. Similarly, victories in the Dubai Sheema Classic and Dubai Turf will grant automatic spots in their respective 2026 editions. Sheikh Rashed bin Dalmook Bin Juma al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Racing Club, emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing the sport globally.

To further support international participants, the Breeders’ Cup will cover entry fees for the winners of the Dubai quartet and provide travel allowances for starters based outside North America. This initiative ensures that top-tier international talent can compete at Del Mar, where the 42nd running of the Breeders’ Cup will take place on October 31 and November 1, 2025. The challenge series offers a unique platform for owners and trainers to showcase their horses on a global stage, raising the bar for international competition.

This strategic alliance between the Dubai Racing Club and Breeders’ Cup underscores the growing interconnectedness of the global racing community. By offering automatic qualification and financial support, both organizations aim to foster greater participation and elevate the sport's profile. The inclusion of these prestigious races in the Breeders’ Cup challenge series promises to attract elite competitors and create memorable moments for fans worldwide.
