Duquesne Men's Tennis Team Faces Tough Start in 2025 Season
2025-01-12

The Duquesne University men's tennis team embarked on its 2025 season with a challenging start, facing tough competition from Notre Dame and Western Michigan. Despite their efforts, the Dukes were unable to secure any victories, losing both matches by a score of 7-0. The team now stands at 0-2 for the season as they prepare for their next match against Radford.

On Sunday, Duquesne traveled to South Bend, Indiana, where they first faced off against the host Fighting Irish. The day began poorly for the Dukes, who lost all three doubles matches. Keita Duclos and Alfrendo Vogelaar, juniors, were defeated in the top slot, while freshmen Enrique Lana and Uvan Patel fell short in the second position. Chris Cianciotti and Pierce Manning also suffered losses in the third doubles match.

The singles matches did not fare better for Duquesne. Each of the six players representing the Dukes was overpowered by their Notre Dame counterparts. Duclos, competing in the top spot, lost to Sebastian Dominko, while Lana and Vogelaar faced similar defeats in subsequent slots. Freshmen Teo Papadopoulos and Tancredi Alfano also struggled, adding to the overall loss.

The following encounter against Western Michigan proved equally challenging. Once again, the Dukes lost all three doubles matches. Duclos and Patel were defeated by Brogan Pierce and Jack Davidson, while Papadopoulos and Alfano lost to Anton Arzhankin and Drew Evans. Lana and Manning rounded out the doubles losses. In singles play, Duquesne faced another sweep, with each player falling to their respective opponents.

As the Dukes regroup after these setbacks, they will look to bounce back in their upcoming match against Radford. Scheduled for January 25th, this game provides an opportunity for the team to demonstrate resilience and improvement. Fans and supporters are hopeful that the Dukes can turn things around and showcase their potential in the remainder of the season.
