The Elon University men’s tennis team is set to conclude their regular season with two significant matches. After a commendable performance this spring, the Phoenix will travel to Camden, South Carolina, for a challenging encounter against the #62 ranked St. Johns on Tuesday evening. Subsequently, they will host the College of Charleston at home on Thursday. These games not only mark the end of the regular season but also serve as a prelude to the upcoming CAA Championships, hosted by Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
This week's fixtures bring an opportunity for the Phoenix to showcase their skills and determination. Elon currently holds a record of 9-6 this season, having recently triumphed over Norfolk State with a decisive 4-0 victory. Rafael Ymer stands out as a key player, boasting a singles record of 10-4 and maintaining a five-match winning streak at the No. 2 position. Additionally, the doubles duo of Jack Curtis and Rafael Ymer has been impressive, holding an 8-4 record and riding a four-match winning streak.
On the other side, #62 St. Johns enters the match with an outstanding record of 21-2, riding a six-match winning streak after sweeping Saint Josephs 6-1 in their latest game. Under Head Coach Dillon Pottish, who has been leading the team since 2018, the Thunderbirds have proven to be formidable opponents.
In preparation for their Thursday encounter, the College of Charleston brings its own strengths to the table. With a current record of 9-8, the Cougars have shown resilience, most recently defeating the Citadel. Their long-time coach, Jay Bruner, now in his 17th year, continues to guide the team effectively.
Looking forward, Elon is excited to host the CAA Tournament for both men’s and women’s tennis this spring. The top six men’s teams from the conference will gather at Elon for the tournament scheduled from April 25 to 27, promising thrilling matchups and showcasing the best talents in collegiate tennis.
