The city of Palm Coast, Florida, celebrated the inauguration of five new tennis courts at the Southern Recreation Center on January 13, 2025. This addition marks a significant milestone for the facility, now boasting a total of 15 courts, including pickleball options. The event also launched the Palm Coast Open, a series of USTA Pro Circuit tournaments attracting top-tier players from around the world. The Women's tournament runs from January 13 to January 19, while the Men's tournament follows from January 27 to February 2. The expansion is part of a broader initiative to enhance tennis facilities and promote the sport in the region.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony highlighted the importance of expanding recreational facilities to meet the growing demand for tennis in Palm Coast. With the addition of five new courts, the Southern Recreation Center now offers an impressive 15 courts, bringing it closer to its goal of having 20 courts. Laura Bowen, Executive Director of USTA Florida, emphasized that this expansion ensures the facility remains a vital hub for both current and new players. The project was made possible through a $700,000 grant from the USTA/USTA Florida Growth Catalyst Fund, along with support from local leaders and tennis advocates.

The new courts, constructed by Welch Tennis Courts, Inc., include a state-of-the-art stadium court adjacent to the Southern Recreation Center building. This expansion not only enhances the playing experience but also supports the original vision of creating a premier tennis destination. USTA Florida has committed to providing ongoing assessments and ideas to further develop programs and events at the facility. Chuck Gill, President of USTA Florida, praised the community's commitment to nurturing tennis talent and enhancing recreational opportunities for all ages and skill levels.
