Fantasy Basketball: Davion Mitchell's Chance to Shine with Scottie Barnes Out
2024-12-10
Scottie Barnes, a key player for the team, unfortunately had to exit Monday's game against the Knicks due to an ankle injury. After the initial x-rays came back clean, he is set to be re-evaluated on Tuesday. This news is a relief, but there is still a possibility that he may miss some time. Their next game is on Thursday in Miami, and with only three games on that day, both Davion Mitchell (4% rostered in Yahoo leagues) and Jonathan Mogbo (4%) emerge as potential streaming options.

The Ankle Injury's Ripple Effect on Team Dynamics

Scottie Barnes - The Team's Primary Playmaker

Barnes had been playing a crucial role as the team's primary playmaker with Immanuel Quickley sidelined. In the game where he got injured, he only managed to score eight points, along with three rebounds, three assists, and two 3-pointers off the bench. However, earlier this year, he had some excellent assist games when he was starting. His absence now means that the responsibility of leading the team's offense falls on Davion Mitchell.

Mitchell has shown potential in his role as a backup. He has the ability to contribute in different aspects of the game. Although he had a relatively quiet game in this particular match with eight points and other stats, his earlier performances as a starter indicate that he can step up when needed.

Jonathan Mogbo, on the other hand, is a riskier option. He replaced Barnes in the lineup after the injury. As a rookie, he has shown the ability to produce value across various areas. However, due to limited minutes, he hasn't been able to make a significant impact yet. He is more of a deeper league option compared to Mitchell.

Monday's Lackluster Player Additions

With only one game on Monday, there weren't many players worthy of being added. Rookie Ja'Kobe Walter (1%) scored a career-high 19 points, but his performance has been inconsistent throughout the year. He is a player to keep an eye on, but not one to add immediately.

Tuesday's Potential Pickups

There are only two games on Tuesday, and here are some players to consider picking up. If your league has a games cap, it might not be the best time to stream some of these guys, but if you want to maximize the games played, here are a few options.

Cole Anthony - The Magic's Offense Leader

With Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner sidelined, the Magic have turned to Cole Anthony for offensive production. He hasn't been a major part of the rotation this year, but in their last game, he played a season-high 29 minutes and scored 14 points. He is arguably the team's best healthy shot creator and should see a significant amount of usage until Banchero returns.

Anthony's ability to score and create opportunities for his teammates makes him a valuable asset. His performance in the recent game shows that he can step up in crucial situations and contribute to the team's offense.

Gary Trent Jr. - Finding His Rhythm in Milwaukee

GTJ's first year in Milwaukee started slowly, but he has been gradually improving. In the last 12 games, he has scored in double figures in 10 of them and even scored a season-high 20 points in the last game. Although his steals haven't returned to their previous levels, his scoring and 3-point shooting have been strong recently.

Trent Jr.'s consistency in scoring and his ability to make crucial shots give him value to the team. His recent performance streak indicates that he is becoming a more reliable option on the court.

Cason Wallace - The Steal Machine

With OKC's rotating starting lineup, Isaiah Joe (3%) and Aaron Wiggins (3%) are also worth considering. However, Cason Wallace has seen the most starts recently and has been able to accumulate steals. All three players should play around 20+ minutes, making them viable streaming options on a lighter day.

Wallace's ability to create turnovers and contribute on the defensive end adds another dimension to his game. His recent focus on steals shows his potential to be a valuable defender and playmaker.

Naji Marshall - Questionable Status and Fantasy Potential

Marshall is questionable after missing the Mavs' last four games due to an illness. PJ Washington (illness) is also in doubt, so there is a chance that Marshall could start in place of an absent Washington. Marshall has been an excellent fantasy option this season, especially when he gets the chance to start.

His performance when he starts showcases his skills and ability to contribute. If he is able to play, he could provide a boost to the team's fantasy lineup.
