A notable presence graced the Panthers’ spring practice at Teddy Bridgewater Field in Bunche Park, as former FIU wide receiver Maurice Alexander Jr. made an appearance. Known for his remarkable contributions to both receiving and punt returning during his college years, Alexander shared his excitement about witnessing the team’s competitive spirit in Miami. His journey from FIU to professional football continues with a new chapter in Chicago.

Maurice Alexander Jr., celebrated for his dynamic performances on the field, highlighted his visit to the Panthers’ practice session. Speaking to the audience, he expressed joy over fans getting the chance to see their favorite players up close. During his tenure at FIU, Alexander was not only a formidable wide receiver but also excelled in punt returns, amassing 25 returns for 406 yards and two touchdowns across four seasons. He currently holds the program record for most punt return touchdowns.

His legacy at FIU extends beyond statistics. The team achieved three consecutive bowl game appearances under his leadership, culminating in a victory at the 2018 Bahamas Bowl. Reflecting on these accomplishments, Alexander cherishes the collective achievements of his team more than any personal accolades. “Winning the most games in FIU history and participating in three straight bowl games are what I remember most fondly,” he reminisced.

Moving forward, Alexander embarks on a fresh challenge in the NFL. After spending two years with the Detroit Lions, he signed a reserve/future deal with the Chicago Bears. This opportunity allows him to showcase his talents within the NFC North division. “It’s truly a blessing,” Alexander remarked, emphasizing his eagerness to compete and prove himself once again.
