The Florida State Seminoles baseball team is gearing up for an exciting 2025 campaign, returning to Dick Howser Stadium in just a month. Under the leadership of Head Coach Link Jarrett, the Seminoles are poised for another stellar season following their remarkable turnaround in 2024. Last year, Jarrett guided the team to a top-10 ranking and a 49-17 record, culminating in a College World Series appearance. Entering the new season, FSU finds itself ranked among the nation's elite by multiple publications, with high hopes riding on a revamped pitching staff led by junior Jamie Arnold.
The heart of the Seminoles' pitching rotation will undoubtedly be Jamie Arnold, one of the country's premier pitchers. After an outstanding 2024 season where he posted an 11-3 record and a 2.98 ERA, Arnold is set to anchor the team once again. However, the departure of key players like Carson Dorsey, Connor Whittaker, and Yoel Tejeda Jr. means that several new faces will join Arnold in the rotation. Among these newcomers is Wes Mendes, a transfer from Ole Miss who showed promise during fall scrimmages against Auburn and Alabama. Mendes, along with transfers Peyton Presscot and Evan Chrest from Jacksonville, brings considerable talent and potential to the mound.
Additionally, the return of Jacob Marlowe adds depth to the pitching staff. Marlowe, who redshirted last season due to heart surgery, has been steadily regaining form through summer and fall play. His presence provides the Seminoles with a reliable arm, whether as a starter or relief pitcher. Meanwhile, the health status of Cam Leiter remains uncertain. Leiter was a standout pitcher early in 2024 before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. If he returns healthy, his experience and skill could significantly bolster the team’s chances of a deep postseason run.
As the first pitch approaches on February 14th against James Madison, the focus for the Seminoles will be on integrating these new additions into the rotation and ensuring the bullpen is well-prepared. With a strong core and promising newcomers, Florida State is set to challenge for another successful season, aiming to replicate and possibly surpass their achievements from the previous year. The coming weeks will reveal how effectively Coach Jarrett can mold this talented group into a formidable force on the diamond.
