Former LA Dodgers Reliever Casey Sadler Retires from Baseball
2024-11-30
Former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Casey Sadler made a significant announcement this week. After a 14-year career, he is hanging up his cleats and moving on to a new chapter. Sadler, who pitched for the Dodgers in 2019, shared his decision on social media, opening up about the reasons behind it.
Retirement and the Pitching Business
Sadler revealed that a major factor in his retirement is the pitching business his wife started. He will now have the opportunity to continue pursuing this venture in his retirement. As he wrote on X, "This year has been a rollercoaster — from fearing I needed Tommy John surgery to discovering I was physically fine, only to realize my biggest hurdle was my own mind. While working to get back on the mound, my wife started a small pitching lesson business and told me to show up. What I didn’t expect was how much those kids would change my life."He continued, "As I poured my knowledge into these young men, something shifted. The drive to play for myself began to fade, and my mental health improved. Teaching these kids was life-giving and gave me a renewed sense of purpose."The Journey to Retirement
Sadler was drafted in 2010 and has had a diverse career. He was originally picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 25th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. In 2014, he made his MLB debut. However, he faced setbacks such as undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2016 and spending the 2017 season in the minors. But he bounced back and returned to the major leagues in 2018.After the 2018 season, he became a free agent and signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. Later that year, he was traded to the Dodgers, where he had a successful stint, going 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 24 appearances. He then signed with the Chicago Cubs and had stints with the Cubs and Seattle Mariners afterward. But he has not made a major league appearance since the 2021 season.Looking Back and Moving Forward
Sadler retires with a career 2.86 ERA across 101 appearances at the MLB level. His time in the league has been filled with highs and lows, but he is now ready to embark on a new adventure. As he said, "Though I’m stepping away from the game as a player, I’m stepping into a new chapter where I can give back to the sport that gave me so much. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this journey—I can’t wait to see where this next adventure takes us."In addition to his retirement announcement, Sadler's post also included "thank you" messages to his parents, coaches, fans, and agent. It's a testament to the impact he has had on those around him throughout his career.Have you subscribed to our YouTube Channel yet?
