Gamecock Brothers Venture Into Transfer Portal
2025-04-25

Two members of the South Carolina football team, linebacker Ronnie Porter and defensive tackle Rondarius Porter, have announced their intentions to explore transfer opportunities. This move comes alongside several other teammates who are also considering new paths during this spring's transfer window. Among them is Wendell Gregory, who has already committed to Oklahoma State, while others remain uncommitted.

Ronnie, a seasoned fifth-year player known for his special teams contributions, and Rondarius, a fourth-year defensive tackle with developing potential, both bring unique skills that could benefit future programs. Despite limited playing time in their respective positions, they have demonstrated resilience and commitment throughout their careers at South Carolina.

Leadership Through Experience: Ronnie Porter's Journey

Ronnie Porter, an accomplished linebacker, has been pivotal on special teams and academically recognized by the SEC. In his four years, he accumulated seven career tackles and consistently contributed off the field as well. Although primarily utilized in rotational roles, his dedication earned him a scholarship last year, highlighting his value beyond mere statistics.

During his tenure at South Carolina, Ronnie displayed remarkable adaptability, participating actively in all 25 games across two seasons (2023 and 2024). His contributions extended beyond traditional defensive metrics; he excelled in special teams play, earning accolades such as selection to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll. Originating from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, where he excelled both athletically and academically, Ronnie’s leadership qualities make him a promising addition to any program seeking experienced talent. As he embarks on his next chapter, Ronnie aims to leverage his remaining eligibility year effectively, contributing significantly to whichever institution selects him.

Potential Rising Star: Rondarius Porter's Future

Rondarius Porter, despite being a walk-on, showcased impressive growth over the past couple of years. With seven career tackles, including one sack, he proved capable of making impactful plays when given opportunities. Now entering his second year eligible for transfers, Rondarius seeks to expand upon his burgeoning skill set within a more prominent role at another university.

Initially joining South Carolina after standout performances at Lenoir-Rhyne and Newberry College, Rondarius quickly established himself through hard work and determination. Overcoming initial challenges related to size, he managed to secure nine appearances in 2024 alone, recording notable achievements like forcing a fumble against Akron. His efforts did not go unnoticed, culminating in receiving the prestigious Defensive Scout Team Award from coaching staff. Born into a family deeply rooted in Gamecocks tradition, Rondarius carries forward his sibling’s legacy while aiming to carve out his own identity in collegiate athletics. With two years of eligibility left, he anticipates finding a suitable environment conducive to unlocking his full potential.
