Georgia Tech Women's Basketball's 50 Years of History

This season, Georgia Tech is celebrating 50 years of women's basketball on The Flats. Under the guidance of coach Jim Culpepper, the team competed in the Georgia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (GAIAW) in 1974-75 and later joined the ACC in 1979-80. Over the past 50 years, there have been many highlights, including 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, two Sweet 16 showings in 2012 and 2021, and nine WNBA draft picks, including first-round picks Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett. In their first postseason berth, Georgia Tech won the 1992 National Women's Invitational Tournament. Currently in their sixth season under head coach Nell Fortner, the Yellow Jackets have reached the postseason three times in the last five years.

Full Steam Ahead Initiative

The Full Steam Ahead initiative is a $500 million fundraising effort aimed at helping Georgia Tech athletics compete for championships at the highest level. The funds will be used to renovate important facilities such as Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field (the home of Georgia Tech football), the Zelnak Basketball Center (the practice and training facility for Tech basketball), and O'Keefe Gymnasium (the home of Yellow Jackets volleyball).
