The 2025 Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series is set to break records with its most extensive lineup yet, featuring 93 races across 15 countries. This prestigious program offers automatic qualification for winners into the corresponding races at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Held on October 31 and November 1 at Del Mar, this two-day event showcases 14 Grade 1 races and an impressive undercard worth over $34 million in purses and awards. The series not only provides a pathway for international competitors but also emphasizes financial incentives such as free entry fees and travel allowances.

With races taking place in diverse locations including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dubai, England, France, Ireland, Japan, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, the U.S., and Uruguay, the challenge series highlights global equine talent. In addition to the international races already underway, the domestic portion of the series commences on June 6-7 at Saratoga. Winners benefit from substantial financial support, including allocated entry fees and travel allowances for both North American and international participants.

Domestic Kickoff: Key Races and Financial Support

The domestic portion of the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series launches on June 6-7 at Saratoga, offering several opportunities for horses to qualify automatically for championship races. Races like the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap (G1), and Jaipur Stakes (G1) provide berths into respective Breeders’ Cup events. Alongside qualification, financial incentives play a pivotal role in attracting participants.

Breeders’ Cup has committed unprecedented funding for this year’s challenge series, allocating $6,510,000 in free entry fees and $480,000 in domestic foal nominator awards. Additionally, winners receive guaranteed starting positions in championship races, with entry fees covered. For horses stabled outside California, a $10,000 travel allowance applies, while international competitors receive a $40,000 allowance. These incentives aim to ease logistical challenges and encourage participation from all regions. Notable races contributing to the Classic division include the Stephen Foster Stakes (G1), Haskell Stakes (G1), Whitney Stakes (G1), and others, ensuring a competitive lineup leading up to the championships.
