Huskies Dominate Seton Hall in a Spectacular 60-Point Victory
2025-01-19

On Sunday, the University of Connecticut's women’s basketball team showcased an extraordinary performance at Gampel Pavilion, defeating the Seton Hall Pirates with an impressive score of 96-36. This remarkable 60-point margin stands as the largest victory for UConn since the 2020-21 season. The game was marked by several milestones and stellar performances from key players, including Paige Bueckers reaching her 2,000th career point and Aubrey Griffin making her triumphant return after a long injury layoff.

The day began with Sarah Strong leading the charge for the Huskies, scoring on their first two possessions to establish an early 10-2 lead. From there, UConn never relinquished control. By deploying aggressive defensive tactics, such as a full-court press, the Huskies forced multiple turnovers and stifled Seton Hall's offense. The visitors managed only one basket over the final 7:50 of the first half while UConn added 24 points, taking a commanding 56-16 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Huskies maintained their intensity. They opened with an 8-0 run and continued to extend their lead, surpassing the 50-point mark by the end of the third quarter. The contributions from the "Big Three"—Strong, Azzi Fudd, and Bueckers—were instrumental. Collectively, they scored 43 points in the first half and finished with 49 points overall. Bueckers also achieved a significant milestone, becoming the fastest Husky to reach 2,000 career points with a jumper in the second quarter.

Aubrey Griffin made her much-anticipated return after recovering from a torn ACL that sidelined her since January 3, 2024. Despite being limited to just 10 minutes, she still managed to contribute three points and four rebounds in her first game in 381 days. Her presence provided a boost to the team's morale and depth.

UConn's comprehensive dominance ensured that all 12 players on the roster contributed to the win. The Huskies' relentless performance not only secured a 60-point victory but also highlighted their strength and cohesion as a team. With this win, UConn improved to 17-2 overall and remained undefeated in Big East play at 8-0. The Huskies will next face Villanova at Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday, continuing their quest for excellence in the upcoming games.
