2025-04-14

The No. 38 Kentucky women’s tennis team ended their regular season triumphantly by sweeping Missouri and St. Louis in consecutive matches. Their performance was marked by dominant doubles and singles play, securing them a perfect score in both encounters. This strong finish sets the stage for their upcoming SEC Championship Tournament.

On Sunday, the Wildcats started their day against Missouri with a resounding 4-0 victory. They began by clinching the doubles point through victories on courts one and three. Ellie Eades and Lizzy Stevens showcased their prowess, defeating Mary Brumfield and Korina Roso with ease. Meanwhile, Ellie Myers and Julia Zhu handled Lailaa Bashir and Zoe Lazar convincingly. Moving to singles, No. 40 Zoe Hammond led the charge with an impressive win over Brumfield at the top spot. Stevens and Jadue followed suit, ensuring Kentucky's dominance continued.

Later that day in St. Louis, the Wildcats faced the Billikens and emerged victorious again with a 5-0 outcome. In doubles, Stevens and Tess Bucher secured a solid win, while Hammond and Jadue contributed significantly to seal the doubles point. The singles competition saw Kentucky maintain their form without dropping a single set. Hammond excelled on court one, followed closely by Zhu and Stevens. Myers completed the match with a commanding display on the sixth court. Although Bucher and Jadue's matches were unfinished, they were well ahead in their respective games.

As the Wildcats wrap up their regular season, their sights are now set on the SEC Championship Tournament starting Wednesday. As the No. 11 seed, Kentucky will face off against No. 14 Arkansas in what promises to be an exciting opening match. With this powerful momentum, the team aims to carry their winning spirit into the championship rounds.
