In a compelling display of skill and strategy, the Longwood men’s tennis team emerged victorious against Howard University in a 4-1 match held on Sunday at the New Lancer Courts. The Lancers dominated the doubles segment and secured three out of four singles matches, showcasing their exceptional talent and teamwork. This victory not only boosts their morale but also marks their second consecutive win, improving their season record to 5-6.

Initiating the day with a strong performance in doubles, Marko Mrdak and Alejandro Uribe claimed an early advantage by defeating Mitchell Yon and Hassimiyou Dieng with a score of 7-5 on court three. Following closely, Petar Belosevic and Petter Lindquist clinched another crucial win over Daniel Dunac and Kaossie Nwokedi, prevailing in a tightly contested match that ended 7-6 (11). Finally, Timéo Puech and Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva completed the sweep in doubles against Michael Major and Marcel Dawson, securing the point for Longwood with a score of 7-6 (5).

Transitioning into singles, the momentum remained with the Lancers as Mrdak delivered an impeccable performance, shutting out Dieng in straight sets with scores of 6-0, 6-0. However, Howard did not back down easily, managing to reduce the deficit when Nwokedi overpowered Belosevic in a decisive encounter on court two, winning convincingly 6-2, 6-2.

The tide turned once more as Longwood regained control through Gonzalez Paiva, who triumphed over Dawson with a resolute 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Ultimately, Lindquist sealed the deal for the Lancers by overcoming Dunac in a nail-biting contest at No. 5, concluding the match with scores of 6-1, 7-6 (1).

With this win, Longwood strengthens its position heading into their next matchup against William & Mary scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Lancers' consistent improvement and strategic gameplay promise an exciting continuation of their season.
