LSU in the Mix for Top Transfer Portal Wide Receiver Eric Singleton
2024-12-14
LSU football finds itself in a competitive race for the highly sought-after top-ranked player in the transfer portal. This development holds significant importance for the team's future and is a key focus area as they aim to strengthen their roster. Former Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton has made his top five schools known, with LSU joining Auburn, Miami, Texas, and Ole Miss. According to 247Sports and On3, Singleton stands out as the No. 1 ranked transfer in the 2025 cycle.

Singleton's College Stats and Versatility

During his time with the Yellow Jackets in 2024, the sophomore receiver showcased his skills by catching 56 passes for 754 yards. In 2023, he continued to shine, hauling in 48 passes for 714 yards and six scores. Not only is he a reliable pass-catcher but he also added an element of versatility, carrying the ball 21 times for 131 yards in 2024. His performance on the field is truly remarkable, as he ranked eighth among ACC receivers with an average of 2.23 yards per route run in 2024.Coming out of high school, Singleton was a three-star prospect and was not ranked within the top 1000. However, he has defied expectations and has become a key player in the transfer market. His ability to make plays and contribute on both offense and special teams has caught the attention of many college football programs.

LSU's Previous Transfer Additions

LSU has already made a significant move by signing former Kentucky playmaker Barion Brown from the transfer portal. Singleton shares a similar mold, with his skill set and potential. However, with Kyren Lacy and Mason Taylor heading to the draft and CJ Daniels entering the transfer portal, LSU needs more pass-catching help. The addition of Singleton would address this need and provide the Tigers with a dynamic receiver option.

LSU's Transfer Strategy

LSU head coach Brian Kelly has signaled that the Tigers would be aggressive this transfer season. So far, LSU has been ambitious, getting involved with the portal's top players. As of Saturday, they have signed three transfers, including Brown, cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, and tight end Bauer Sharp. This shows their commitment to strengthening the team and improving their chances of success on the field. The pursuit of Singleton is just one part of LSU's transfer strategy. By adding talented players from the transfer portal, they hope to build a more competitive team and compete for championships. Singleton's arrival would add depth and firepower to the LSU offense, making them a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming seasons.
