Two standout players from the Marist women’s tennis team have been recognized with prestigious honors by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Caterina Assi and Cloe Clements Sorde were selected for the All-MAAC Singles Second Team, reflecting their exceptional performances throughout the season. Additionally, five members of the Red Foxes earned spots on the MAAC All-Academic Team, showcasing a balance of athletic prowess and academic excellence.
Assi dominated the #1 singles position, achieving an 8-7 overall record and excelling in conference play with a 4-3 mark. Meanwhile, Clements Sorde demonstrated remarkable consistency at the #2 spot, securing a 10-7 overall record and a 4-4 performance in MAAC matches. Both athletes received Player of the Week recognition this year, adding to their growing list of accolades.
The achievements of Caterina Assi and Cloe Clements Sorde highlight their contributions to the success of the Marist women's tennis team. She was also honored with the MAAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week title. As a freshman in 2024, Assi claimed the prestigious MAAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year award, setting a high standard for her future performances. On the other hand, Clements Sorde contributed significantly to the team's success, amassing a 10-7 overall record and a solid 4-4 record in MAAC matches. Her dedication and talent earned her both a spot on the All-MAAC Singles Second Team and a Player of the Week nod during the season.
In addition to their athletic accomplishments, several Marist student-athletes were acknowledged for their academic achievements. Five Red Foxes qualified for the MAAC All-Academic Team, demonstrating a commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the court. To qualify for this honor, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher and have completed at least two semesters at their institution.
The recipients of the MAAC All-Academic Team distinction include Andriana Zaphiris, majoring in Business Administration; Ellen Zureick, studying Athletic Training; Cloe Clements Sorde, pursuing Business Administration; Caterina Assi, focusing on Fashion Design; and Jane Wright, enrolled in Communication. These individuals exemplify the ideal balance between academics and athletics, proving that success in one area does not come at the expense of the other. Their dedication to maintaining high standards in both fields serves as an inspiration to their peers and highlights the comprehensive development fostered by the Marist program.
