Mellow Fellow: A Seasonal Dining Gem
2024-11-24
Mellow Fellow stands out during baseball season as a casual and popular stop, providing pre- and post-game food and drinks. But what about when the Reno Aces are on hiatus? Stepping into this place during the offseason becomes a delightful experience. The once-busy bar and grill slows down, transforming it into a more laid-back date night spot. An added bonus is that some menu items that were unavailable two hours before Aces games are now back on the menu, giving diners access to the full range of offerings.

Discover the Offseason Delights at Mellow Fellow

Baseball Season vs. Offseason

During baseball season, Mellow Fellow is a bustling hub with food and drinks for fans. But in the offseason, it takes on a different charm. The bar and grill slows down, creating a more relaxed atmosphere. It becomes a perfect place for a laid-back date night. Diners can enjoy the full menu without the rush, making it a unique experience.

Mellow Fellow offers a variety of menu items that go beyond the basics. From classic wings in several flavors to giant soft pretzels with dipping sauces, there's something for everyone. The starters list is particularly interesting, with items like Schnitzy Sticks, giant Tempura Stuffed Mushrooms, and a Babaganoosh Salad. These unique offerings set Mellow Fellow apart from other corner bars.

The menu also features extensive sections dedicated to pitas and mac and cheese. Even the sandwiches and burgers take creative liberties. One of the favorite menu items is the CockaDoodle, a fried chicken sandwich topped with goat cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and "Doodle sauce." It offers a delicious combination of flavors without the spiciness of many other fried chicken sandwiches.

The "Two Handers" Section

The "Two Handers" section of the menu reads like an international menu. Diners can choose from a Korean Burger made with a short rib and brisket patty or a rich and tangy Bison Sloppy Joe made with buffalo ragout. These unique combinations add to the charm of Mellow Fellow.

For those who like a bit of a kick, the Carne Asada Wrap is a must-try. It features delicious carne asada topped with Mellow Fellow's exclusive cheese sauce and finished with pico de gallo, jalapeño, pickled onion, and crema. The soft and thick pita bread makes it even more delicious. If you can't handle too much heat, you can ask for an extra side of sauce to tone it down.

Another inspired combination is the Wally Wrap, which is essentially a Waldorf salad inside a pita. It includes grilled chicken, mixed greens, green apple, cranberries, walnuts, and a creamy sweet dressing. It's a unique twist on a classic salad.

The Space and Pricing

From the outside, Mellow Fellow looks deceptively small, but inside, there are two large rooms. One is the main hub with a centerpiece bar and plenty of seating at tables of all sizes. The second is an attached overflow space with long tables that can be opened as needed.

The biggest complaint about Mellow Fellow is the price. With house-made ingredients and a dedication to local businesses, the entrees tend to be on the higher side. Sandwiches and burgers hover near the $20 mark. However, the portions are generous, and starters range from $7 to $15. It's a trade-off between quality and price.

On the bright side, the beer list offers plenty of local brews, adding to the overall dining experience.Want to visit in the offseason?
