Unlock Michigan Football's Potential with Transfer Portal Gains
The Metcalf Twins: A Defensive Powerhouse
Michigan football has welcomed a pair of defensive backs via the transfer portal from the SEC. Former Arkansas twins Tevis and TJ Metcalf have committed to the Wolverines, as confirmed on social media on Monday evening. TJ, a sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, showcased his skills with 56 tackles (29 solo), seven passes defended, three interceptions, and a forced fumble. He played in all 12 games as a freshman and an impressive 730 snaps as a sophomore. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed 300 yards and two touchdowns on 23 receptions in coverage. Despite these numbers, his potential is believed to be even higher. He demonstrated his versatility, lining up in the box (335 times), at free safety (296 snaps), and in the slot (94 snaps). Tevis, on the other hand, played just 15 snaps on defense in 2024 and allowed two receptions for 38 yards when targeted. TJ has two years of eligibility remaining, while Tevis has three. They are younger cousins of former Ole Miss wideout and current Seattle Seahawks standout DJ Metcalf. Brady Norton: The Offensive Line Gem
The Wolverines have also added to their offensive line with the addition of Brady Norton from Cal Poly. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 290 pounds, Norton was the top-ranked FCS pass blocking offensive tackle in 2024. He did not allow a sack and had just three hurries on 444 pass blocking snaps, with only one hurry in the final nine games of the season. A former three-star product from Mission Viejo, California, he was named an FCS Central Freshman All-American and is the only lineman in the Big Sky on the team. It is likely that this is not the only addition to offensive line coach Grant Newsome's room. Michigan has lost its two top offensive linemen, Myles Hinton and Josh Priebe, who are now eligible elsewhere. Additionally, four other offensive linemen - Dominick Giudice, Raheem Anderson, Andrew Gentry, and Tristan Bounds - have entered the portal. Head coach Sherrone Moore seems to approve of all this activity, indicating the team's commitment to strengthening its offensive line.
