Michigan Wolverines Bolster Running Back Corps for 2025
2025-04-21

The Michigan football team has recently expanded its running back lineup with the addition of two new talents, enhancing their roster for the upcoming 2025 season. CJ Hester and John Volker have committed to the Wolverines, bringing a wealth of experience and potential to the program. These transfers not only strengthen the depth at the position but also provide versatility in both rushing and receiving plays.

CJ Hester's commitment to Michigan marks an exciting development for the team. Originally starting his collegiate career at Western Michigan in 2023, Hester demonstrated promising skills before transferring to UMass. During his tenure at UMass, he accumulated 119 rushes for 529 yards and scored four touchdowns. Additionally, Hester showcased his ability as a receiver, recording 14 receptions for 58 yards. His Cincinnati roots connect him with another Wolverine running back, Jordan Marshall, potentially fostering camaraderie within the squad.

John Volker adds further dimension to the Wolverines' offense. A seasoned player from Princeton, Volker brings a robust resume having rushed for over 1,100 yards and scored 17 touchdowns during his undergraduate years. Notably, his performance in 2024 earned him Honorable Mention All-Ivy League recognition, highlighting his exceptional capabilities on the field. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 210 pounds, Volker possesses the physicality needed to excel in college football.

Both athletes visited Ann Arbor recently, cementing their decisions to join the Wolverines. Their arrivals come at a crucial time, following Ben Hall's departure via the transfer portal, which left limited options in the backfield. With offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey known for utilizing versatile backs, these additions align perfectly with the team’s strategic needs.

Incorporating Hester and Volker into their lineup positions Michigan favorably heading into next year. Their combined strengths promise to invigorate the offense while providing much-needed depth. As they integrate into the program, fans can anticipate dynamic performances that could significantly impact the 2025 season.
