2025-01-08

In an exciting week for Minnesota high school basketball, two outstanding performances have captured the attention of sports enthusiasts. Tori Oehrlein from Crosby-Ironton Rangers set a new state record with 21 assists in a single game, while Maddyn Greenway and Addi Mack combined for an impressive 90 points in a thrilling match between Providence Academy and Minnehaha Academy. These achievements highlight the exceptional talent and competitive spirit of these young athletes.

Rangers' Star Breaks Assist Record with Stellar Performance

The junior guard from Crosby-Ironton Rangers, Tori Oehrlein, has made headlines for her remarkable skills on the court. In a recent game against Hinckley-Finlayson, she shattered the Minnesota high school girls basketball state record by dishing out 21 assists. This feat not only showcases her ability to create scoring opportunities for her teammates but also reflects her unselfish play style. The previous record of 20 assists was held jointly by two Roseau players from different eras.

Oehrlein's contributions extend far beyond assists. She is a versatile player who averages an astounding 29.8 points, 16.7 rebounds, 9.5 assists, and 7.3 steals per game this season. Her all-around performance has been instrumental in leading the Rangers, currently ranked second in Class 2A by Minnesota Basketball News. Her ability to dominate multiple facets of the game makes her one of the most formidable players in the league. The Rangers' success can be attributed largely to Oehrlein's leadership and skillset, which have inspired her team and earned admiration from fans and critics alike.

Dual Showdown: Two Players Combine for Impressive Point Total

In another noteworthy performance, Providence Academy's junior Maddyn Greenway and Minnehaha Academy's senior Addi Mack combined for an astonishing 90 points in a closely contested game. Greenway contributed 51 points, while Mack added 39 points to the tally. This impressive total ties for fifth place on the state’s all-time list for most combined points by opposing players in a single game. Both teams are highly ranked in the 2A state rankings, with Providence Academy at No. 1 and Minnehaha Academy at No. 3.

This is not the first time these two standout players have made history together. Earlier in 2023, they combined for 105 points in a different match, with Greenway scoring 60 points and Mack adding 45. This achievement stands as the second-highest combined point total ever recorded by opposing players in a single game. The record for the highest combined points belongs to Karly Jusczak of Pine City and Grace Heins of Ogilvie, who amassed 125 points in a memorable game on February 9, 2024. Despite stiff competition, Greenway and Mack continue to push boundaries and demonstrate their exceptional abilities on the court.
