In a vibrant display of athleticism and competition, the Muskegon Big Reds boys basketball program hosted its annual Muskegon Basketball Showcase on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Thrilling Matchups and Stellar Performances at the Muskegon Basketball Showcase

In the golden hues of winter, the Muskegon area witnessed a thrilling series of basketball games during the annual Muskegon Basketball Showcase. The showcase concluded with the Big Reds clinching a commanding 69-33 victory over Ferndale. James Martin led the charge with 18 points, followed by Elija Langston’s 16 points and Darryl Thompkins Jr.’s 10 points. Despite the loss, Drakkar Ouwinga stood out for Ferndale with nine points.

Elsewhere, Traverse City West narrowly edged Reeths-Puffer 68-63, thanks to Caden Stoops’ 21-point effort. Reeths-Puffer’s Brayden Mitchelson and Marvin Moore contributed significantly with 27 and 21 points respectively. Grant also had a standout performance, defeating Shelby 76-34, with Zaiden Phillips leading the way with 21 points. Coach Dan George praised his team’s defensive efforts and unselfish play.

The girls’ division saw Kent City dominate Sparta 47-9, with Ellie Hansen scoring 13 points. Laynee Hoffman and Kenzy Freeland added impressive all-around performances, contributing both offensively and defensively.

Coopersville secured a solid win over Kent City 66-41, while other local teams also competed fiercely throughout the day, adding to the excitement of the showcase.

Looking ahead, the Big Reds will face Hudsonville on Tuesday before traveling to Byron Center next Friday. Reeths-Puffer prepares for Whitehall on Tuesday and Mona Shores the following week. Grant will host Reed City next Friday, while Shelby faces Oakridge on Tuesday.
