Oregon Ducks Secure Strong 2025 Recruiting Class Despite Key Departures
2025-01-22

The Oregon football team has successfully secured the majority of its 2025 recruiting class, with only minor adjustments expected as the final signing period approaches on February 5th. The Ducks have already signed 20 out of their initial 21 commitments during the early signing period in December and have actively recruited transfers to address specific needs for the upcoming season. However, two highly-rated recruits—quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele and receiver Dallas Wilson—have since departed, citing personal reasons. Despite these changes, the team remains confident in its roster, having added nine transfer portal commitments to bolster key positions.

Recruiting Highlights and Transfers

In the vibrant autumn season, the Oregon Ducks completed most of their 2025 recruiting efforts well ahead of schedule. By December, they had locked in a robust class of 21 recruits, with all but one signing during the early period. Unfortunately, the team experienced some setbacks when Sagapolutele transferred back to Cal, feeling underappreciated, and Wilson joined Florida due to family health concerns. These departures reduced the class size to 20.

Among the highlights, 12 recruits enrolled early to participate in Rose Bowl practices, though this number is now down to 11 following Sagapolutele's exit. The remaining players include defensive backs Dorian Brew and Trey McNutt, linebacker Nasir Wyatt, edge rusher Matthew Johnson, tight end Vander Ploog, offensive linemen Ziyare Addison, Demetri Manning, Douglas Utu, Zac Stascausky, and Alai Kalaniuvalu, quarterback Akili Smith Jr., running back Jordon Davison, and wide receiver Cooper Perry.

Additionally, eight more players have signed but may not enroll until spring practices. This group features top talents like five-star athletes Dakorien Moore at receiver and Na’eem Offord at defensive back, along with Brandon Finney, Dierre Hill, Gavin Nix, and Tobi Haastrup among others. Notably, kicker Rocco Graziano, ranked seventh nationally, remains committed but has yet to sign.

To strengthen the team further, Oregon has secured nine transfer portal commitments, including standout safety Dillon Thieneman from Purdue and Tulane running back Makhi Hughes. These additions are crucial for addressing immediate needs, especially on the offensive line and in the backfield.

From a journalist's perspective, this recruitment cycle underscores the importance of adaptability and foresight in college football. Despite losing two high-profile recruits, Oregon’s proactive approach in the transfer portal demonstrates strategic depth. The team’s ability to quickly adjust and secure quality replacements speaks volumes about their commitment to excellence and readiness for the challenges ahead. The Ducks’ resilience will undoubtedly be tested, but their comprehensive planning bodes well for the future.
