OwnerView's 2024 New Owner of the Year: John Stewart and Jayson Werth
2024-11-20
John Stewart, a lifelong racing fan with over 30 years in Lexington, Ky., made a significant mark in 2022 by buying Shiloh's Mistress at the Keeneland September yearling sale. He now owns Resolute Racing in Midway, Ky., with over 1,000 acres and a diverse stable including broodmares, yearlings, and racing-age horses. Stewart focuses on breeding to race rather than selling, aiming to support the industry through quality broodmares. His 3-year-old filly Pounce, by Lookin At Lucky out of Bouncy, bred by Bell, Rankin, VanMeter & Hancock, won the Lake George Stakes (G3) and Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3) this year. He also co-owns Didia, the winner of the New York Stakes (G1). Notable horses like Goliath, winner of the 2024 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) at Ascot, and stakes winners Misty Vail, Dana’s Beauty, Youalmosthadme, and Mensa are part of his portfolio. “It’s very important as I grow the breeding program at Resolute Racing to breed to race. I am trying to breed quality horses that can go on to win graded stakes,” Stewart said. “Starting off in this industry can be intimidating, but once you’re in, you’re hooked. It’s a wonderful sport, and I hope more people take the time to get involved.”
