Piedmont High School's girls tennis team has been making waves this season, showcasing their talent and determination on the court. As the regular season comes to a close, the Highlanders are gearing up for a strong postseason push, determined to make their mark in the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) tournament.

Highlanders Soar in Tight Match Against Berkeley

In a closely contested match on October 24th, the Piedmont High girls tennis team emerged victorious over their rivals from Berkeley, securing a 4-3 win. The teams split the singles matches, but the Highlanders managed to clinch the victory by winning two out of the three doubles matches.

Doubles Dominance Seals the Deal

The Piedmont duo of Emma Chan and Maddie Tran proved too strong for their opponents, Gaia Giliberti and Ezra Abarbanel, winning their No. 2 doubles match 6-4, 6-2. In the No. 3 doubles clash, Inara Mehta and Abigail Call overwhelmed Maya Gearen and Sarah Marsh, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. However, the Yellowjackets' Elanna Kunis and Erin Iao managed to secure a win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Samantha Huynh and Emma Eisemon 6-3, 6-2.

Singles Showdown

In the singles matches, Piedmont's Kate Jumper showcased her dominance at the No. 2 position, defeating Elliot Schrag in a convincing 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 victory. At the No. 4 spot, the Highlanders' Faith Chin also emerged victorious, besting Vera Ertel 6-1, 6-2.On the Berkeley side, Sam Loptain secured a hard-fought win at No. 1 singles, outlasting Carolina Romanczuk in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-5. Ariana Alharazy also contributed to the Yellowjackets' effort, defeating Arianna Kortum 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles position.

Preparing for the Postseason

With the regular season winding down, the Piedmont High girls tennis team is set to face off against Bishop O'Dowd on October 29th at Merritt College. Currently holding a 4-3 record in WACC Foothill Division play, the Highlanders are poised to make a strong push in the upcoming WACC Tournament, scheduled for November 8-9 at a location yet to be determined.As the Piedmont High girls tennis team gears up for the postseason, their determination and skill on the court have positioned them as a formidable contender.
