Report: Michigan Hires North Carolina's Chip Lindsey as Offensive Coordinator
2024-12-11
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore made a significant move by firing Kirk Campbell earlier this month. Now, reports suggest that he has his eye on the next offensive coordinator. According to 247Sports, the Wolverines are set to bring in North Carolina's offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey, for this crucial role.

Chip Lindsey's Coaching Journey

Chip Lindsey has an extensive coaching background. For the past two years, he served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Mack Brown at the University of North Carolina. Before that, in 2022, he held the same positions at the University of Central Florida. He also had a stint as the head coach at Troy from 2019 to 2021.In addition to these roles, Lindsey has experience as an offensive coordinator at Hoover High School in Alabama, Southern Miss, Arizona State, and Auburn. He has been a part of the coaching profession since 1997.According to his bio page on UNC's website, eight out of the 11 offenses he has worked with as a full-time staff member have averaged at least 30 points per game. This shows his ability to develop high-scoring offenses.

Experience with Quarterbacks

One of the key aspects that Sherrone Moore was looking for in a new offensive coordinator was experience working with quarterbacks. Lindsey has plenty of that. He has worked with some notable college players like Nick Mullins at Southern Miss, Jarrett Stidham at Auburn, and Drake Maye at UNC. Maye was recently selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, highlighting Lindsey's ability to develop quarterbacks. Stidham threw for more than 3,000 yards under Lindsey's guidance. In 2015, Mullins led Conference USA in passing yards (4,145) and touchdowns (36) with Lindsey's help.

Recruiting Potential

Lindsey is from Alabama, which gives him an advantage in recruiting the southeast portion of the country. His familiarity with the region and its talent pool could potentially lead to some strong recruiting efforts for Michigan. He knows the area well and can leverage his connections to bring in top-notch players. Now, Lindsey will have the opportunity to work his magic on five-star Bryce Underwood in Ann Arbor. This addition to the coaching staff could bring a new level of excitement and potential to Michigan's offense.
