During his time at Florida Memorial University, Burgos left a lasting mark. He transformed the baseball program into one of the best among historically Black colleges and universities. The team became highly competitive in The Sun Conference, known as one of the toughest baseball conferences in the NAIA. His leadership and coaching skills played a crucial role in this transformation.Burgos led the team to new heights, instilling a sense of determination and teamwork among the players. His coaching philosophy focused on developing the players both as athletes and as individuals, preparing them for success in all aspects of life.
Under his guidance, the players grew in confidence and skill, achieving remarkable results on the field. His ability to connect with the players and bring out the best in them was evident in their performances.
Winning the Black College World Series
In 2023, Burgos achieved a significant milestone by winning the Black College World Series championship. The Tigers faced off against fellow SIAC school Albany State and emerged victorious with a 5-4 score in the title game. This victory was a testament to Burgos' coaching prowess and the team's determination.The championship win brought immense pride to the Savannah State University community. It showcased the talent and hard work of the players under Burgos' leadership.

Taking Over from Carlton Hardy
Carlton Hardy resigned over the summer after leading the Tigers for 19 years. Burgos now steps into the shoes of a respected coach and is tasked with continuing the Tigers' success. His experience and leadership will be crucial in guiding the team forward.Burgos is well aware of the legacy left by Hardy and is committed to building on it. He plans to bring his own style and approach to the program while maintaining the values and traditions that have made Savannah State University baseball strong.

Last year, the Tigers finished 2024 with an impressive 31-17 overall record and represented the SIAC at the 2024 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament. This shows the potential and competitiveness of the team under Burgos' leadership.
