Scott Boras' "Boras Four" Secure Big Deals with Dodgers and Giants
2024-12-04
Snell initially faced a sluggish start but truly shined during the 12 starts in the second half. He pitched with remarkable efficiency, posting a minuscule 1.45 ERA in an impressive 68 1/3 innings. After a year of waiting, it held significant importance for Snell to make an early impact this time, and his agent, Boras, masterfully orchestrated it. The ink on Snell's new deal with the Dodgers is still fresh. It's a five-year commitment worth a whopping $182 million, with a portion deferred. Over his first six free agent years from 2024-2029, Snell is set to earn a grand total of $214 million.
Teaming Up with Chapman
Snell not only achieved great success on his own but also became a teammate with Matt Chapman, another member of the "Boras Four." Chapman, like Snell, found a home with the San Francisco Giants and experienced a lot of success there. He hit at a.247/.328/.463 clip, matching his career OPS with an identical.790 mark. Chapman blasted 27 home runs, drove in 78 runs, and stole a career-high 15 bases. His outstanding play at third base earned him a Gold Glove.Originally signed to a team-friendly three-year, $54 million deal, Chapman received a raise before he could trigger an opt-out and hit free agency. He signed a six-year, $151 million contract extension, seeing his average annual value (AAV) increase from $18 million to just over $25 million. In just twice the number of years, he nearly tripled the total value of the deal he signed last offseason.
