Syracuse Football's Offseason Transfer Move Sets the Stage

Alabama's Naquil Betrand Joins Syracuse

Naquil Betrand, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 328 pounds last season at Alabama, made a verbal commitment to the Orange. His decision was announced on Instagram, marking a crucial moment for the Syracuse football team. Betrand initially began his career at Texas A&M and then transferred to Alabama last offseason. Syracuse was among the options he considered during that time. The recruiting website 247 Sports reveals that current Syracuse defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson and veteran offensive line coach Steve Addazio were his primary recruiters at Texas A&M. Betrand played high school football at Northeast (Philadelphia) High School and still has three years of college eligibility remaining. He was a three-star recruit out of high school, ranked as the No. 55 offensive tackle and the No. 792 prospect in the Class of 2023. According to Pro Football Focus, he played in one game for the Crimson Tide last season, accumulating a total of 28 snaps at left tackle. However, he was removed from Alabama's roster in the middle of the season.

Other Offensive Line Developments at Syracuse

Another Alabama backup offensive tackle, Miles McVay, is planning visits to Syracuse and North Carolina. Syracuse's starting right tackle, Savion Washington, will be out of college eligibility after the Orange finishes its season in the Holiday Bowl. Two other tackles who started at least one game this season, Da’Metrius Weatherspoon and David Wohlabugh Jr, have another year of eligibility remaining. This provides some depth and potential for the Syracuse offensive line in the coming seasons.
